August Harvest - Fresh Goodies!

Picked fresh from the August Harvest. The latest produce from the MTB Tree...
Seems the mongrel that is Hensley just can't stop watering the local trees. Good job as the fresh produce they are producing is definitely fit for the captain's table. First in from Schwalbe:
Now there really is an alternative to Maxxis. I've been running Geax tyres with no qualms for most of the summer and they are holding up fine. That said I've also been on the new Continentals and have nothing but praise for them, more about that next month.
Today is all about Schwalbe.
Now for the surprise, you always have to weigh stuff you test or you lot start moaning. Well this is what the Descent-Gear scales of truth tells you:
Schwalbe Dirty Dan 2.35 1,407grams
Maxxis WetScreams 2.2 963grams
Maxxis WetScreams 2.5 1,125grams
Why so heavy for the Schwalbe? Personally the sidewall feels super thick and heavy duty to touch, no pinch puncturing here me thinks. Now the weight is definitely a negative, especially in the mud. The balance is re-addressed by the super low pressures you can run. Weigh around 11stone/67kilos? Then 15psi in the tubes held up fine and gripped like sh1t on a blanket.
Also maybe only a small note, but the knobs are bigger now, that may mean a few things for you. Firstly will they dig into the mud as well? Seeing as the WetScream has a smaller "Spike".
Secondly as the Schwalbe spikes are thicker there maybe no need to cut them down! Thus saving you 30 minutes of your time and a pair of blisters, your tyre will last longer than a cut WetScream as there is more tread and more importantly the tyre will be more predictable in corners. The reason we cut WetScreams is because those long spikes roll over on the roots and in corners making the ride sketchy.

I've known Dan White for too many years. In fact was it really 1990 or there abouts when we all headed over to the legendary Droitwhich Banks after the demo at Birmingham Wheels for the Powell Peraltra Team? Lance Mountain was right at home.
What has that got to do with the price of Fish? Well Dan is Mr. Cube U.K, an old skool skater that can still throw out a mean frontside, smith grind on any mini ramp. Therefore when he got hold of this he popped on over to show me his wares. Once it's done the rounds I'll be cocking my leg to give you guys a full review of the beast.

What have we here book worms? Definitely one to take out of the library for the most concise and detailed and damn useful guide to all things dirt. Whether you are into XC, Downhill, 4x, Freeride, BMX, Dirt Jump, Northshore or Foam pits, the list goes on.
Then the full details of what the locals do and don't is a great insight for you the reader along with what facilities are available. If that is not enough, you also get the post/zip code for the sat nav, trick! This would be a great present for any rider out there who either lives this side of the pond or is planning a big road trip.
A little birdy tells me to checkout Amazon for this one.

The shocks on those cube bikes are going to get mudded up good, probably not the best. . . probably
mudflap is your answer, not really for the cube, but for the tire roost on the shock, a mudflap is what you need.
if your worried about the shock getting dirty and damned just buy a £5 shock cover and then just take it off wand put it in the washingmachine when it needs a clean simple
whats with "always clip in" from paton, his ending is normally "stay unclipped" has he gone to the dark side?

@Waldon: Yeah, the shock is pretty exposed, but Cube makes special fenders to cover them, and after all, it isn't that bad - The superb pro's of Dual Trail Control suspension system totally makes it worth the extra cleaning!

Those bikes look sweet, but I am totally with Waldon about the shock location, all it would take is for the rear wheel to pick up a stone and damage the shock. I hope they are adding the fenders of as stock
I have that book, it's extremely detailed and very clear. It has so many tracks in it, even one of the local ones near me that no one really knows about. Recomend it for people looking to ride lots in the UK.

Specialized does not have patent rights in Canada, devinci and brodie use the horst link without having to pay. Only Canadian companies that are branching into the US market pay the fee.

I thought the Cube bikes had no canadian distributor. Coming from a canadian bike site I find it weird to see them promoted here. But please somebody prove me wrong and tell me where I can see them in Montreal!
The internet is Global, so please don't think that where someone is based should restrict what content they promote. At this time I do not believe that there is a Cube Dist in Canada, but contact them as they will get back to you.
I just expressed my surprise of seeing Cube promoted. And yeah, lucky us the internet is global which means I can order one on the net.
Pinkbike may be canadian but look at the veiewers there are likely 40 countries a day looking at this site, lots of people over the pond use pinkbike.com as the definitive MTB resource
If you look at the first pict next to the title youll see that there holes drilled into the little link between the tire and the shock. Probably to add a small fender to protect the shock " V10 style"
those tires sound like they have a great review but honestly these tires are going to be almost exclusively used by racers and NO racer is going to give up 600grams of rolling weight to try a new tire, not if they want to win anyways
