Chris Smith signs with Corsair

Posted: Feb 3, 2009

UK freerider Chris Smith will be riding Corsair Bikes and Marzocchi Suspension for the whole of the 2009 season. Chris Smith is one of the top UK freeriders and will be landing at The Adidas Slopestyle, [Braun] 26 Trix, Bike Radar Live and Crankworx to name a few.

Check out his new set ups inside:

Chris will be using the 5” travel Konig with a Marzocchi 55 ATA Micro and Chris will also have a 7” travel Maelstrom freeride bike with a Marzocchi 66 RC3 fork when a little more travel is needed!

He said: "I'm stoked to ride the new Corsair Konig. It's great to have a bike designed purely for the riding I do rather than adapting a bike that isn't totally up to the job. Also working with Corsair will give me the chance to have real valued input into the bikes.”

Corsair UK Brand Manager Dan Jones said: “We are really pleased a rider of Chris’s caliber wanted to ride for Corsair bikes. We worked with Chris last year when he rode on Marzocchi forks so when the opportunity came to link up again, we jumped at the chance.”

it's from an MBuk story on his old giant bike and how it was considered a super-bike... irony strikes again

It's from an mbuk story on how to advance your freeride skills, and this was a picture fromt he drops section, his bike received only a brief mention

i very much doubt ill be seeing muh of chris again this year.
back when he signed up for giant he was expected to go on to do "big things" and enter all these slopestlye comps. but in finals, highlights and reviews, he was never even mentioned.

Chris did his as well doing a huge drop (biggest in the country i think) in a quarry a while back. He's also buggered ankles and been plauged by a large host of unfortunate injurys

Chris Smith is one of the top UK freeriders

but have u ever heard of him at contests?
sam pilgrim has had better results recently then this guy

not trying to put him down but i think this title is a bit over the top giving the past few years
  • + 6
flag mike-smith (Feb 4, 2009 at 5:36)
agreed!

lance mcdermott, grant fielder and sam pilgrim have all come up from being more than just dirt jumpers to being at the top level of the sport while chris's riding has practically disappeared.

"valued input into the bikes." yeah right, it's taken like 4 years for these to finally make it to market (if they even have), I doubt he'll be able to get them to change anything about these without 3 or 4 years lead time.

I am happy for him. And I think this is will be a very good opportunity to get Corsair bikes into the eye of the public as they are not very well known whereas everybody knows for sure who Chris Smith is.

"Chris Smith is the UK's top freerider."

Yeah, because MBUK say so and all the misinformed readers lap it up. He's just never been good enough to make it into the A-list of freeriders or break the international scene. He is a bit of a pioneer, paved the way for the next generation, but he is now over the hill - he's old, and Pilgrim and McDermott are not just the future, but have been the present for the past two years.

Still feel British freeride needs to diversify to really contribute internationally. Chopper will never be quite good enough either, I'd be surprised if Pilgrim makes it just because he's so goddam unmarketable, and all three (McD inc.) are basically failed BMXers. It seems to be all we can muster at the moment.... I blame the f*cking Georgians for cutting down all our temperate rainforest so we couldn't have a scene anything like the Canadians.

yeah but at the end of the day not many people from britain are competitive enough to want to compete. most of us ride to stay fit and chill out with mates - competitions can suck my cock

he must have pictures of the editor at mbuk with a goat or maybe a sheep considering it's a brit mag to keep getting called the uks top freerider. he's won nothing and has been passed by. i like the guy and he seems like a good dude but seriously, how can anyone consider him top 10 in the uk.

flag antichavmilitia (Feb 11, 2009 at 6:11)
He is a sick rider, but just had loads of bad luck with injuries recently, hasn't been able to enter comps. He won king of Dirt at NASS fest back in august easily, but as I said hasn't been able to enter much. Plus, U.K competitions are few and far between
