Swiss and Swallow Aston Hill Black Run Race
It's been a long time coming since Ian Warby hung up his clip board after doing so much with Aston Hill in the past. Rich Abbott, Ben Marston and the new Committee have been working hard, this is what they delivered!

Now for the history lesson so pay attention:
In 1913 two men Lionel Martin and Robert Bamford who started out selling Singer automobiles, who where both handy mechanics and Lionel an accomplished driver was often seen racing at the Aston Hill, hill climb races near Aston Clinton. In 1914 the two decided to start to build there own Vehicles and Aston Martin was born.
The name Aston Martin comes from the combination of "Aston" from the hill climb races and Lionel Martin's last name.
Aston Hill has been totally revamped by the boys and they have done a good job indeed. Aston Hill has plenty of XC trails, several DH tracks and a 4x track all within a stones throw of the M25. That means all those Cockney Barrow Boys who have no where else to ride a hill can now head back up to Aston Hill. RESULT!
The day started fine and got better with that Spanish sunshine following me down the M40, cruising at 121mph in the Vantage. The course was bone dry and a good job too. The chalky soil at Aston turns into an Ice Skating Rink when it rains. There is also plenty of sharp flint in the ground that not only cuts your tyres but makes a mess of your elbows.
The course starts off pretty pedally into the infamous bomb hole then into the fast and flowing bermed corners is a breeze. Plenty of tight, rooty switched backed berms and a few new and loose sections to throw the locals off the scent. The bottom two thirds of the course are super steep and technical, we could of been at Innerleithen! Down in under 1:46:05 meant you were fast!
No transport so a good honest walk up. Now I remember DH racing back in the day, you even had to walk up Fort William, Innerleithen, Hopton and Ludlow. It didn't hurt me thirteen years ago, it does hurt now though. That said the fire road from bottom to top is a pretty relaxed and mellow affair and will take around 10-15minutes.
The fit young guns pushed up besides the track crossing the track and ducking the tape in a few places. As far as I'm aware this didn't cause any problems though would it be best to send everyone up the fire road next time?
Practice ran Galaxy Chocolate smoooth and most people got 3-4 practice runs in before racing started promptly at 11:00. First race runs ran followed by an hour lunch break for the 230 riders was a nice relaxing touch. The burgers flowed all day long next to the sign on Marquee providing us with some quality nose bag. Even Hensley my dog approved as he was treated to the burnt left overs!
Then back to racing and everyone made it down, except one casualty who went via A&E (Accident and Emergency). Results were up sharp and podium presentations with a handful of super prizes from the main sponsor: Swiss+Swallow - Organic and Fairtrade clothing - www.swissandswallow.com

Being a traditionalist I thought I might as well fly the flag and grabbed the keys for the Vantage from the car pool for the trip down..

Scott BEAUMONT only managing a 1:40.25, hmm got beaten by a lot of people... not quite so pro maybe...
Have you got a bag full of world cup 4X podiums, National series titles, Worlds bmx gold medal, National champs jersey? Scott has been the model pro for more than ten years. Idiot.
never said anything about his 4x talent just that at a regional DH race he did his first run only manged a 1:40 then went home, with out doing a second run!
Cheers for adding the pic of me going arse over tit! Wicked day! Such a good turn out, the Hill deserve every bit of praise!
I sometimes ride wis Ludovic Oget and i can tell you that this little boy is f*cking quick. DAMN!!!!!!!!!
